The Light That Remains After Christmas
The 26th of December always arrives with a particular silence. The lights are still on, but the excitement of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day has passed. The tables are quieter, the streets calmer, and the heart so often returns to feeling the weight of routines, worries, and absences. It is precisely in this interval between celebration and daily life that we are invited to discover the depth of the true Light that Christmas has brought us.
The message of Christmas does not end on the 25th. The Light that was born is not fleeting, it does not fade with the end of the festivities, nor does it depend on the outward sparkle of decorations. It is an inner light-silent, constant-that remains to illuminate ordinary days, unexpected challenges, and the darkest nights. Today, we are called to recognise this discreet yet steady presence that continues to accompany each step, even when the initial enthusiasm begins to fade.
Today’s reflection invites us to look within and ask: what light remained in me after Christmas? Perhaps it was a gesture of reconciliation, a word of affection, a reunion, a memory, or simply the awareness that we do not walk alone. The light that Christ brings to the world is not merely a spiritual promise; it is a concrete force that transforms attitudes, heals wounds, renews hope, and rekindles the courage to begin again.
On this day, when many return to work, responsibilities, and familiar concerns, it is important to remember that true change does not happen in a single day, but in the continuity of small gestures. The light remains when we choose patience over irritation, listening over indifference, generosity over selfishness. It remains when we allow love to be the measure of our decisions and the foundation of our relationships.
May this Friday be, therefore, an invitation to serenity. May we welcome the light we have received and allow it to grow within us, illuminating not only our own path but also the path of those who cross ours. Light multiplies when it is shared, and every act of kindness is a small flame that helps to dispel the darkness of the world.
Prayer
Lord, on this day that follows Christmas, I thank You for the light You have placed in my heart. May it not fade with the end of the celebrations, but remain alive in my actions, my words, and my choices. Grant me serenity to face challenges, wisdom to act with love, and courage to be a light for others. May Your presence accompany me today and always, illuminating my path and renewing my hope. Amen.
