The Light That Precedes the Dawn
Reflection
We are just a few days away from Christmas, and the world seems to move between haste, expectations, and silences that we do not always know how to interpret. December has this particularity of being a month of outward lights but also of inner shadows. It is a time when many rediscover hope, while others face absences, difficult memories, or uncertainties about the future.
Today’s Word invites us to look at a very specific moment in spiritual life: the light that appears before the dawn. It is not yet full day, but it is no longer complete night. It is that instant when the sky begins to change colour, even if our eyes cannot yet clearly distinguish what lies before us.
Grace works in the same way. Many times, God does not immediately give us the complete answer, the fully illuminated path, or the perfect solution. Instead, He offers us a first glimmer, a discreet sign, a gentle peace that settles in the heart. It is the promise that the day will come, even if we cannot yet see it fully.
Today, we are called to recognise these small signs. Perhaps it is a word that touched us, an unexpected gesture from someone, an inner strength we cannot explain, or simply the certainty that we are not alone. The light before the dawn is subtle but real. And it is enough to keep us moving forward.
Inspiration
When God acts, He rarely does so with noise. Transformation begins within, in silence, in the faithfulness of small steps. Today’s inspiration is simple and profound: do not despise small signs. The seed is small, but it contains an entire tree. The light is faint, but it announces the day.
If you are going through a time of waiting, do not interpret it as abandonment. Waiting is often the space where God prepares what we are not yet ready to receive. The dawn does not hurry, but it never fails.
Allow yourself to believe that something new is being born, even if you cannot yet see it clearly. The light has already begun.
Prayer
Lord, on this day that precedes the celebration of Your coming, I thank You for the light You place on my path, even when it is still faint. Teach me to recognise the subtle signs of Your presence and to trust that the dawn will come at the right time. Strengthen my heart so that I do not grow discouraged in the waiting, and grant me the grace to walk with serenity, hope, and courage. May Your light grow within me and through me, illuminating those who need comfort and peace.
Amen.
